Quality of new, aftermarket parts

Quality of New, Aftermarket Parts
Much has been said about aftermarket parts for classic parts. That they don't fit or align well, that they are flimsy and thin, that the chrome fades after a little while, the dimensions and shapes are wrong....I went to a local car show and examined many of these aftermarket parts, for example, the replacement horn pad for '67 cars. I noticed how different it is from my original. So much that I am even thinking about spray-painting my own instead of buying the replacement. Several Mustang forum members have also advised me to try to keep as much original trim and parts as I can, if possible, restoring them to their original glory. I can see why. Many not only look different, but these replacement parts can be very expensive for my budget ($230.0 for a door shell!)...So far I have always been able to get parts of the best quality. All of my new Scott Drake parts look very good and fit right....
I am taking advantage of time; that is all I have. I am stuck here in Sleepy Hollow Tobyhanna for the next 3-5 years, so I have plenty of time to be patient. On the other hand, I want to be able to enjoy my car in the many car shows around the State of PA and NJ. So I have to strike a balance between saving money, quality parts, and project management. I gave myself a year to do this project (without complications, like a sudden deployment to Afghanistan!). Hey, it's not a nut & bolt Resto work (I need to keep reminding myself!).
