Day 1

DAY 1
We began by setting up our garage for the long months of work ahead of us. I quickly involved my kids in the project. Most of my tools were brough in; both pneumatic and electric. My DA sanders, cutters, cut-off wheel, drills, etc. Lighting was enhanced with fluorescent lamps in every corner.

Then we began disassembly. All chrome trim was removed and carefully hanged on the wall. All screws and nuts were bagged ald labeled. Most will be replaced anyway, so that makes it more important to label all of these. Pretty soon one wall was covered with zip-loc bags of parts!

Then we tackled the vinyl top. I was a bit anxious about what I would find, so within 5 minutes I had that thing removed. There was some body filler on the end corners, so either the entire vinyl top was replaced, or they lifted it at the ends for slight repairs. There is a thick coat of very thick primer-like paint (what is it?!?) that I will be sanding off.

Now, the big question; Will I restore the vinyl top look with a new one, or will I save myself  $1,000.0 and give my car a more modern look? I am not sure yet what I'll do. Mostly because of my budget. I would rather use that money to update the suspension and steering components; new leaf springs, etc. Maybe in the near future I'll come up with the money to restore the vinyl top, to give my car the period-correct look that turn heads everywhere. Plus is also part of the original Exterior Decor Group Package.
